Photo archiving is the process of scanning and organizing printed photos or important documents into digital format.

Traditional printed pictures will deteriorate over time. By scanning photos into digital format the picture is captured in its current state. Having a digital copy of important papers is also a good idea.

The photos are then burned onto a CD or DVD depending on the amount of pictures. These are data CD’s or DVD’s meaning they will contain the pictures in file format recognized by computers. These do not play in a DVD player. If that is what you are looking for see Photo DVD Slideshows.

Once you have the disc, you can store it for safe-keeping, bring it to any photo center to have prints/enlargements made or email them to family.

You can also later decide to make a Photo DVD slideshow from some or all of the pictures.

Index prints are also available of all your photos. This is a sheet of small sample images letting you see the photos you have on the CD. You can fit up to 88 index images on one sheet. The more you choose to have on each sheet will depend on how big each image is. Having 88 would give you about a one inch wide thumbnail photo for each. The filename can also be added under each picture.
